Abstract |
The expression of caveolin-1 in the digestive organ of mouse. Western blot analysis showed that caveolin-1 was expressed in the digestive organs with varying intensities. Caveolin-1 expression was low in the pancreas and stomach moderate in the Iiver and esophagus and high in the ileum, cecum and colon. Histologically, caveolin-1 was immunostained blood vessel endothelial cells inall digestive organs. ln the Iiver, caveolin-1 immunoreactivity was found in vascular endothelial cells and bile duct cells, but not in hepalocyles. In the pancreas, caveolin-1 was found in the Islet of Langerhans, but not in exocrine cells. Caveolin-1 was detected in some cells in the lamina propria of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine (ileum), cecum and large intestine (colon), occasionally in covering epithelial cells weakly. The immunoreactivity of caveolin-1 largely matched the results obtained with Western blot analysis. This is the first report showing the expression of caveolin-1 in the digestive organs of mouse. The present findings suggest that caveolin-1 was expressed in all digestive tissues with varying intensities. Caveolin-1 may play an important role in each digestive organ with the signal transduction pathway. The determination of their precise role in the digestive organs will require further study. |
