Abstract |
The diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is based on a combination of characteristic symptoms and electrophysiologic abnormalities. Although nerve conduction study is considered as the gold standard for CTS diagnosis, the attraction of sonography for diagnosis of CTS lies in its wide availability, lower cost, noninvasiveness, and shorter examination time. We present a review of the literatures concerning sonography for. the diagnosis of CTS. The main conclusion is that there is no competition but rather a complementarity between sonography and electrodiagnosis. Sonography is certainly an efficient imaging technique but can not replace electrophysiologic study. |
